Mid 1900's Stover made Harwi #8 Waffle Iron with Low Base. Beautiful and unique!
There are a lot of vintage and antique pieces that are difficult to pinpoint when it comes to the maker or date of creation. This is largely because the patterns were borrowed from other foundries, some because they were made by another larger foundry, and others simply because there are no clear markings. Harwi cast iron waffles were likely made by Stover Manufacturing in the mid 1900's, and its convincingly so looking at the handle style, the paddle design, and the similar hinge style of the Stover waffle irons. If you see a Belmont, Stover or unmarked designs like these, you will find they are very a like. The base is a short base, featuring the raised 8 on the bottom. There is a tall base which is very hard to source. This waffle iron has been stripped and seasoned, and it is ready to use! There was significant seasoning build up so some residual carbon will be present. Overall a fantastic piece for your gourmet kitchen!
