We first began this journey with our circa-1925 to 1930 Griswold No. 8 skillet because it reflects the years surrounding the births of our parents, 1927 through 1929, and immediately gave us a sense of cooking within the same era that shaped part of our family’s early story. Now, adding this late-1880s gate-marked #8 skillet carries that connection even further back, reaching into the generation of our grandparents, with birth years of 1888 through 1896, when a pan like this would have quietly served in everyday kitchens and family meals.
To us, these pans are far more than antique iron. They feel like a living link to those who came before us: ordinary meals, humble kitchens, long days of work, family gathered around a table, and the quiet care that held households together across generations. There is something deeply meaningful in preparing food with cookware from the same years our family members were born, as if a small part of that history is still present each time the skillet warms and a meal begins.
We intend to cook with these pans in remembrance of our family heritage, honoring both the generations we remember and those whose daily lives shaped the family we now carry forward. Loved the restored pan, nicely restored, saved me a lot of looking around for what I needed.
I researched every company around the world for the best Cast Iron available. I all companies either had a new Cast blend, not straight up Cast iron, which they did not lost what the iron was blended with, and they were all preseasoned with manufactured oils that were produced with crude oil products.
I am not eating crude oil products such as vegetable oil, canola oil, or seed oils.

I ordered a #8 Griswold. I am thoroughly impressed with the restoration of the skillet! Beautiful. Cooked 3 times in 3 days with it. Sautéed veggies, Rib Eye, and bacon. The seasoning they did is great. No sticking, no issues. Also impressive was the care taken in packaging. Solidly packed with bubble wrap, foam, and peanuts. Did not move around in box. I cannot imagine what it would have taken to be damaged in shipping. Well done. There is obvious pride in these folks work. I'll buy again from them.
I needed to replace my Lodge 8” cast iron skillet I lost in our recent move to Birmingham AL & lo & behold I found a perfectly restored 8” skillet that was forged by Birmingham Stove & Range in the 1940’s!!!!! I have number 3 through No,10 and No 14 Griswald cast iron pans and the matching covers except the cover for the No. 4 fry pan. I looking for that cover and No. 11. 12, 13, pans and covers. I have been a Griswold collector for 20 + years. Always looking for a piece to add to my cookware cast iron. I don’t hang my pieces I use them daily. I picked up two pieces of Griswold cast iron specifically for breakfast dishes for myself. After going back and forth between a brand new cast iron skillet and a vintage piece, I finally decided on a Wagner from Cast and Clara Bell. I love the skillet. It’s a beautiful piece. I bought a number seven Griswold pan, when I received it, it was well packaged and in great condition.
I gave it an additional two seasonings with grapeseed oil, and this thing is better than a Teflon pan as far as nonstick goes. I have several cast-iron pans, and this one is my favorite. Thanks to the casting Clara team for doing great work. I added a number seven lead that I already had to it.
