Gorgeous, original complete Favorite Piqua tall base waffle iron. Est 1920's and makes crispy waffles!
ABOUT THIS PIECE....
This is a show stopper! The Favorite Foundry (OH) was an early 1900's foundry that was only in production until roughly 1938, when the foundry was burned down in a riot created by its workers during the Great Depression. We love everything about the story and history of The Favorite (Piqua) / Chicago Hardware foundry, and we LOVE this hard to find waffle iron with short base! It makes wonderful waffles, but also breakfast sandwiches, ice cream sandwiches and more creative twists to the traditional! The Favorite Piqua logo shines bright and clean as its been fully restored and is ready to use!
The handles are original, and can be tricky to restore being made of wood AND being riveted. See the handle pictures for more info. When we season waffle irons we give them a heat treatment which can weaken the handles at the rivet area where they attach to the paddles. So there is invariably some carbon left right at the rivet area and the lower side of the paddle. You will see this in pics. There is always a loose feel to the handles but they are sturdy and will not break.
DISCLAIMER: We have prepared this piece to be ready to use or displayed in a collection. All pieces are vintage, and therefore are not in perfect condition. Their history of use means small marks and inconsistencies, including residual carbon, which we feel give them a special charm.
