Introducing Husted Home: Handmade Wooden Kitchen Tools for Everyday Use
At Cast & Clara Bell, we have always believed that the best kitchen tools are the ones you actually reach for every day. They do not need to be flashy. They need to feel good in your hand, do their job well, and have enough character that you want to keep them around for years.
That is why we are excited to introduce our new partnership with Husted Home, a Pennsylvania based maker creating handmade wooden kitchen tools from responsibly sourced salvaged hardwood.
Husted Home’s approach is simple and beautiful: functional art for everyday use. Every piece is made by hand, without mass production or automation, using wood that is salvaged rather than harvested. Nearly all of the wood is sourced locally from southeastern Pennsylvania, which makes this partnership a natural fit for Cast & Clara Bell.
Our restored cast iron cookware already carries history, craftsmanship, and everyday purpose. These handmade wooden utensils and kitchen accessories bring that same spirit to the rest of the kitchen.
Why Handmade Wooden Kitchen Tools Belong Beside Cast Iron
Cast iron cooking is hands on. You season, clean, maintain, and use the pan in a way that connects you to the process. Handmade wooden kitchen tools fit that same rhythm.
Wood is gentle on cooking surfaces, comfortable to use, and naturally beautiful. Whether you are scraping a skillet after dinner, turning vegetables in a pan, rolling dough for a pie crust, or serving a meal at the table, these pieces are designed to be used, not hidden away.
Each Husted Home piece is finished with Walrus Oil Cutting Board Oil, a food safe, NSF Certified finish made from pure mineral oil, fractionated coconut oil, beeswax, and vitamin E. Like cast iron, these wooden tools can be cared for, conditioned, and enjoyed for years.

We are starting with a small collection of handmade wooden kitchen tools that pair naturally with cast iron cooking, baking, serving, and everyday kitchen use.
Handmade French Rolling Pins
A French rolling pin gives you excellent control when rolling pie crust, pastry dough, cookie dough, pizza dough, pasta dough, and sourdough. Without handles or moving parts, you work directly with the wood, allowing better pressure control and a more natural feel.
We currently offer two handmade French rolling pin options:
The dark Black Walnut rolling pin has a rich, classic look, while the lighter Spalted Maple version offers beautiful natural grain patterns. Both are handmade from salvaged hardwood and designed for real baking work.
Handmade Hardwood Chopsticks
These are not ordinary chopsticks. Husted Home’s handmade chopsticks are built larger than standard chopsticks, making them useful for both eating and cooking. They are great for stir frying, serving noodles, plating vegetables, turning small foods, or cooking with cast iron.
Our Handspun Chopsticks are available in two wood options:
- Black Walnut: rich dark color, straight grain, and durable hardwood character
- Spalted Maple: light wood with beautiful, unique grain patterns
Each set includes a colored resin detail and carries the handmade character that makes every pair slightly different.
Pot & Pan Scraper for Cast Iron and Bakeware
A good scraper is one of the most useful tools in a cast iron kitchen. The Pot & Pan Scraper - Sycamore/Black Walnut is handmade with a Sycamore body and a Black Walnut inner thumb ring detail.
It is designed to help loosen stuck food before final cleaning and works beautifully with cast iron skillets, Dutch ovens, griddles, glass casserole dishes, ceramic bakeware, and other cooking or baking surfaces.
The corners are shaped with different radii, giving you multiple edges to fit different pots, pans, and dishes. It is small, practical, and easy to keep near the stove.
Large Handmade Kitchen Spoon
The Large Kitchen Spoon - Spalted Maple is made for everyday cooking, stirring, and serving. It works well for soups, sauces, stews, vegetables, and family style meals.
Spalted Maple gives each spoon its own natural grain and character, making it both a useful kitchen utensil and a beautiful handmade piece. It pairs perfectly with cast iron cookware, stoneware, and traditional kitchen tools.
Large Handmade Kitchen Turner
The Large Kitchen Spatula/Turner - Spalted Maple is designed for turning, lifting, serving, and everyday cooking.
Use it for roasted vegetables, skillet meals, baked goods, and serving from cast iron or bakeware. The broad turning surface and handmade wood construction make it a practical addition to any kitchen that values simple, durable tools.
Made from Salvaged Hardwood
One of the things we love most about Husted Home is the commitment to responsible sourcing. The wood is salvaged, not harvested, and nearly all of it comes from southeastern Pennsylvania.
That means each piece carries a little bit of local character. Black Walnut, Spalted Maple, Sycamore, Cherry, and Kentucky Coffee wood all have their own look, feel, grain, and personality.
Because these pieces are handmade from natural wood, no two are exactly alike. Slight variations in color, grain, shape, resin detail, and dimensions should be expected. Those differences are not defects. They are part of the beauty of owning handmade wooden kitchen tools.
How to Care for Handmade Wooden Kitchen Tools
Like cast iron, wooden kitchen tools reward simple care. Clean with water and mild soap, then dry immediately. Do not place these pieces in the dishwasher.
To keep them looking and feeling their best, condition them regularly with a food safe mineral oil such as Walrus Oil. If you ever notice slight roughness on the wood surface, that is usually the natural wood retaining and expelling moisture, which can raise the grain slightly. A light sanding with high grit sandpaper, followed by a fresh coat of oil, will help smooth the surface again.
Functional Art for the Cast Iron Kitchen
At Cast & Clara Bell, we are always looking for products that make sense beside restored vintage cast iron. Husted Home fits that standard.
These are handmade wooden kitchen tools with purpose, beauty, and everyday function. They are practical enough to use daily, beautiful enough to give as gifts, and natural enough to feel right at home next to a restored Griswold, Wagner, Lodge, or vintage cast iron skillet.
