Prior to the name "Griswold" being fashioned on the most popular vintage cast iron cookware with the famous cross logo, they used the name Erie on all of their items. Some of the most sought after cast skillets were made by Griswold under the Erie name and were made prior to 1910. This version was made in the early 1900βs, and features both the slant logo and the Erie brands. This was used as many of them were intended, over a wood stove. So there is some consequential sulfur pitting spread evenly across the bottom. It was used well, not abused, so the patina of sulfur is visible on the bottom. We have never seen a raised "blob" style makers mark on any Griswold pieces until this one. There is a raised "6" or "9" on the bottom, making it a one of a kind. We wish we knew the story behind who made this by hand back in the 1910βs.
This is a fantastic, light weight long griddle, perfect for grilled cheese or pancakes over the fire or in your gourmet kitchen. Its surface is slick and ready to use, being fully restored and seasoned three times with our oil blend. A fantastic piece to hang on your wall or display in your kitchen.
DISCLAIMER: We have prepared this piece to be ready to use or displayed in a collection. All pieces are vintage, and therefore are not in perfect condition. Their history of use means small marks and inconsistencies, including residual carbon, which we feel give them a special charm. All items are sold as is, and we have done our best to present them as such. Please review all pictures and ask for further clarification if needed. Thank you! - Cast & Clara Bell
